Harbour lights

Situated pretty much in the middle of the Jurassic coast natural world heritage site and at one end of Chesil beach, West Bay, Dorset it is a lovefest for fossil hunters from around the world.
This officially recognised site draws people in by the thousands Imagine strolling up a beach and casually picking up fossils of creatures that roamed the world millions of years ago. If you're lucky, maybe even finding a pyratized sample.
Of course, if you don’t mind the risk of having the whole cliff face land on you, you could take a hammer and hack away at the cliff base but this is not recommended (or allowed in many places).
So why is it, that every time I go fossiling there are teams of navies channelling away? Quite often, as I walk behind them, I glimpse an ammonite barely feet from where they are working. I wonder (as I do) if this is peculiar to Britain , and so I wander…..to Australia, to witness them collecting fossils
Whoa! Slow down guys, you just don't need all that stuff. I bet you've got a helicopter tucked away somewhere too haven't you ? That said, it's of to Wilmington, North Carolina to check out the scene That's a little more like it, no jack hammers there. And so peaceful.
So tomorrow evening, as I sit by the harbour lights eating my fish 'n'chips and watching the boats I'll remember……. we don't have it too bad.

The thing with blogs and other web stuff is that it will all still be there long after we pass on. That said, I would like to post a page that the good people of October 10 3005 can read and get an instant picture of what planet Earth was like 'a thousand years ago.

October 10 2005.
This morning was a little misty in the Thames valley as I made the short journey to work. 10 minutes to travel 4 miles across the moor and over the Thames at Cookham. I hear an earthquake levelled much of Pakistan Kashmire last night. This is a country so far away that it did not interfere with my breakfast routine - strong freshly ground coffee. Had the earthquake been in Brazil, I may have taken more notice as this is where my coffee comes from.
Other headline news today -
Australia - Hot news. Mmmm, not for me thanks.
England - More Gorgonzola? Yep, this is headline stuff today in the UK and rightly so. Why eat chillies when you can eat cheese.
Finally Wilmington,NC. I wonder if they are even awake yet but lets see. Oh dear, and I thought I had troubles. Hang on, that was 3 days ago, lets try again. That's better. Well, looks like no one in that part of the world can get home.
Other observations about today -
Today, to the best of my knowledge, there are no aliens living amongst us or, on any other known planet. A few of the leaders of various countries around the world are of questionable backgrounds and their actions do not befit that of the general populous of earth but I feel quite confident that their roots are human.
Stuff we are aware of today -
The earth is not flat. I discovered this myself yesterday when I went out the front door for a long walk and came back in the back door.
Superman is not a real person. (yep, I knew that would hurt)
100% beef does not mean 100% meat.

Suppose that's about it from 2005 but just one thing......I wonder if anyone from the year 3005 is keeping my garden tidy?

Blogging

What motivates a blogger and how do we differentiate between a good one and a bad one? A blog (online diary) should contain bloggy stuff as it is not a web page/home page as such.
Now I know what your thinking, but I am the exception to the rule. I see myself as a reporter caught in blogland. I have a message that would not be put across in any medium other than a blog. That said, lets check some out. Readers of my other blog (aroundtoit) will know the format.
Australia, blogawards. Crème de la crème and the winner is... Tim Blair Well done Tim, outstanding to say the least. Next we go to dear old Blighty and find this little gem Coppersblog Eh? Well at least it had content but no, neither of these are in my opinion blogs. So, onward ever onward 'til we reach…yep, Wilmington, NC. Now left at the next intersection, right at the junction and pull up here. This my friends, is a blog, and I have to say, I love it.

Who needs them?

Passwords I'm talking about. Well, passwords, usernames, user accounts, pin No's, verification codes, screen names, you know the stuff, and just when you think you've cracked it.....they ask you to change it every month or pop in an alpha numeric and at least one upper case and one lower case. Then to cap it all....even when you get it all correct......it still bombs out on you.
Well, that's my rant for the day, lets see how long this blog lasts.
